BanJam

Reviving, reclaiming, and recognizing the contribution to roots music that the ringing sounds of the banjo create, and combined with the sweet voices of African American children a new music program has been created.

Banjam, a collaboration of BASEArizona AfroScouts, Jam Pak Blues ‘N’ Grass Neighborhood, and the International Bluegrass Music Association Foundation, has birthed this extraordinary group. Meeting weekly at the Jam Pak home, this home-based program is creating a new music community.

Coached by Giselle Lee and Danielle (Lucy) Tanyi on banjo, and Joelle Tambe-Ebot on upright bass, the group is learning to play and sing bluegrass and old-time music.
